Interesting facts from my research about Maungakiekie


1.

Maungakiekie is the second youngest volcanoe.

2.

In 1994 Mike Smith, a Maori activist cut down the Monterey Pine
tree at the top on One tree Hill

3.

Maungakiekie was a home to up to 4,000 warriors.

Post Trip Activities

Brief summary of what we did on our trip


We first started walking along the lava flow, we went to the top of the mountain and
spent a few minutes on sketching and than we went into the stardome and had a
little quiz. We than went into the Planitarium and watched a little show.

Pine tree

The Monterey Pine tree that


was on top of the mountain
was cut down by a Maori
activist called Mike Smith in
1994.

Maori tribe

The tribe that lived on


Maungakiekie was the
Waihua tribe.

Rocks

The reddish rock path that


people walk upon is the
course of the lava flow.

3 new things I learned at Star Dome


1 Methane rivers

There are methane seas/


rivers in the planets.

Jupiter had a hurricane that


lasted for centuries

Storms

MoMoons

The moon travels around the


sun and the side facing the sun
is light while the other side of
the moon is dark.. And while
the sun travels around the
moon it creates the different
shapes of the moon. E.eg
crescent moon.

My favourite part of our trip


I mostly enjoyed the walk because i learnt a lot about the history of Maungakiekie,
and about the different volcanoes around nz.
