Simple Machines

A simple machine is a device that makes a task easier by

doing one or both of these things:
It changes the size of the force you apply to it.
It changes the direction of the force applied to it.

Simple machines help us to make work easier.

There are six simple machines.

Levers
Pulleys
Wedges
Inclined Planes
Screws
Wheel and Axles

Levers

loads.

Pulleys
A pulley is a simple machine that uses grooved wheels and a rope to raise,
lower or move a load.

Wedges
A wedge is an object with at least one slanting side ending in a sharp edge,
which cuts material apart.

Inclined Plane
An inclined plane is a slanting surface connecting a lower level to a higher level.

Screw
A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a pole which holds things together or
lifts materials.

Wheel and Axle
