An F3 tornado hit College Park, Maryland a half hour ago.

Affecting Route 1
where it knocked down most power lines. The downtown area is currently being
evacuated. The tornado caused three deaths and is continuing to hit throughout the town.
College Parks last tornado was in 2002. Mayor Joie and Aid Nancy of
College Park are working on a solution to reassure residents safety. First responders are
roaming through the campus and effected areas to assist help. The mayor asks to call 911
if you are in danger or go to the basement of your building until further notice.
There is no indication of when the storm will end or when the university will
reopen. We cannot tell at this point how much damage there is, the mayor said. For
now, the mayor and aid are using social media to post updates on the storm.

Update: Mayor Joie confirmed that the storm ended and calculated four deaths and
three injuries. The generators are now working so calls should go through. Residents are
allowed back to the previously evacuated areas.
First responders continue to roam the area to assure that residents and students
are safe. We advise for anyone traveling to not go through College Park yet and to take a
detour, Aid Nancy said. She stated parents of students should not worry because they are
safe.
There is no set date for the university to reopen until the total amount of damage
is calculated. President Lo of University of Maryland has emailed and tweeted that
College Park will be back to its great condition sooner than later.
