CHARACTER ANALYSIS OF RENATO AMOROSO IN THE MOVIE MALENA
Renato Amoroso is a 12 year old boy who lived in Sicily together with his parents
and siblings. He was the only son, a kind and obedient boy to her parents. He never
even skipped class until he met a woman, who is a stranger to him that captivated his
interests and attention. His behavior has suddenly changed after he met the strange
woman named Malena. He begun to skip class, tends to disobey his parents, sneaking
into the house of Malena to spy. Renato also tends to get easily mad and irritated once
he heard bad things about Malena and he also even drag into the reverie imagining her.
Since then, Renato begun to obsess from real love that is also reflected through
his strange actions wherein it is also evident that at his age when puberty strikes, sexual
indulgence towards the opposite sex is inevitable. Renato believed that the attraction he
feels toward Malena is love whereas he was merely influenced by his friends who were
always lurking around Malena as well as in the vicinity and they were always talking
about Malena when they hang out together. Because he was exposed to the idea that
many men and boys loved to be under Malenas sheet, he also has strong to become
his beloved. He was captivated to his beloved Malena because of her beautiful face and
alluring body.
At that time, he tried to get his object of love thats why he hardly tries to get
closer to Malena but to no avail, he failed since he can hardly get the attention of his
object of love. His purpose on acting this behavior is to be accepted by Malena,
competing with other men and his friends, since he was still young. He even steal his
fathers lower garment that he made the tailor adjust the pants to enable to be fit unto
him. Since then, Renato becomes one of the secret admirers of Malena, as well as his
friends. He always awaited Malena to walk in the famous Seantro Calkuta,and literally,
she makes every mens head turn towards her and Renato tends to be hypnotized by
her beautiful face.
Renato love Malena that much that even that even that intense desire he feels
toward her, there was a sex desire that is wild and strong that he longs. He wasnt able
to get that opportunity that is he became drawn to daydreaming fantasize Malena every
time. This daydream was formed because he was fallen in love with her and he did it
because he wasnt able to get it in reality. Malena turn to become a whore and the topic
of the town due to unwanted circumstances happened to her personal life. When the
town started to turn against her, Renato badly wanted to be her protector, but to no
avail, his incapability to express his feeling led him to unable to rescue Malena. His not
the only one who had the intense feeling but as well as his friends with the same
obsession to Malena, they werent able to protect Malena due to weak spirit.
Malena was forced to move to Messini due to great humiliation. Then Nino
Scordia made an appearance unwary of the events. No one express the truth except
Renato who werent able to tell to him personally, so he used to write a letter telling him
of all the truth. Nino searches his wife and return to Sicily afterwards. People were
stunned as well as Renato. The first time he talks to Malena is also the last time he will
hold his innocence. He then rode the bike far from her as he will also no longer hold
back his innocence and realizing he became mature than before. He also stated that
even though he loved many women; he will never always remember Malena which also
means that a mans first love will never be forgotten.
