Week 32

A big thank you goes out to our two Super Heroes this week: Leah and Aubrey!
They both were shining examples of proper student behavior and we really enjoyed
hearing about their adventures with Bear. Leah informed us that she called
Bear Sparky and they had fun playing road hockey. Aubrey named our furry
friend Dog and she pushed him on the swing at the park!

Next month will be a very busy one! Please pay special attention to the calendar as
there are many events taking place during the month of May.
Education Week is May the 2nd to May the 6th. The theme this year is Opening
Doors of Mercy.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Matthew 5:7
We are also beginning a Community Helper Unit starting in May. It will be a very
fun unit with lots of visits from people who work in our community.

Language: This week we have been practicing a special song and poem for a special
event! We also began to make use of our Sight Word Walk Way! On the floor in
our classroom we have taped various Popcorn words and students practice seeing

how far they can walk by reading the word properly. Many students have walked
the entire walkway! Way to go!
We also revisited the letter Jj this week. We reviewed words that begin with J
and worked in our alphabet book.
We took another peak at the digraphs wh, th, sh, ch. We began to explore s
blends. We looked at st this week. We printed words like storm, star, stop and
stink!!! When looking at blends we explain that we can sound out a word like stop
like this s-t-o-p. However, it is easier to decipher what the word is when we blend
the letter like this st-o-p. We had fun tickling our tongues and lips but repeating
st, st, st.
Art: During lunch and work time we have continued to play quiet, calm music.
Students enjoy this a great deal and have been requesting it to help them focus!
This week students have been enjoying hearing their dance fest song, over and
overmany committing it to memory. There was no formal art this week.
Science: Students continue to watch over the shrub at the front of the school.
They have observed its changesits happening fast! We are also beginning to look
at the life cycle of a butterfly. Students are using different types of pasta to
demonstrate this cycle. We also continue to watch over our beans in the classroom.
Each students has a cup where we planted a bean. Most are growing quickly, a few
have not...I wonder why??
Religion: We continue to watch the miracle of growth in the Spring. We read
Peters Chair, by Ezra Jack Keats. Spring is a time for new growth, but its also a
time for our love to grow!
Phys. Ed.: We have been dancing machines! Lots and lots of practice for dance
fest. We have been moving our bodies so much to some good ol Rock and Roll!
Math: This week we focused on the number 11. The formation and representing its
quantity. Continue practicing number recognition and formation with your children.
Numbers can be tricky business!
