vPlain milling cutter : It is cylindrical in shape and have


teeth on circumferential surface only. The cutters are
intended for production of flat surfaces parallel to
axis of rotation of spindle

vSide milling cutter : The side milling cutters have


teeth on its periphery and also on 1 of its sides. The
cutters are intended for removing metals from sides
of a work.

vMetal slitting saw : It resembles a plain milling cutter


or a side milling cutter in appearance but they are of
very small width. The cutters are used for parting off
operation or for slotting.

vAngle milling cutter : They are used to machine


angles, other than 90. They are formed at conical
surface around the periphery of the cutter.

vEnd mill : The end mills have cutting teeth on the end
as well as on the peripheral teeth may be straight or
helical. It is used for light operations like cutting slots,
machining accurate holes, etc. The following figure
shows types of nose of end milling cutters.

vT-slot milling cutter : T-slot milling cutters are special


form of end mils for producing T-slots. The teeth are
provided on the periphery as well as on both sides of
the cutter.
