FEAST OF PENTECOST
Dear Parishioners,
Today we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, the birth of the church
we belong. As we celebrated the Feast of the Ascension last weekend, we
realised that Jesus said he had to return to the Father in order to send the Holy Spirit. Today is
that Day!
Note too that the disciples were in a locked room for fear of their lives. They had asked
the question as Jesus was about to leave, Lord, will you restore the Kingdom of Israel now?
They still hadnt grasped all of what Jesus had told them. They were afraid, confused and ready
to give up! Then lo and behold suddenly they heard what sounded like a powerful wind from
heaven, the noise of which filled the entire house in which they were sitting, and something
appeared to them that seemed like tongues of fire: they were filled with the Holy Spirit and
began to speak foreign languages as the Spirit gave them the gift of speech. (Acts 2)
Things were never going to be the same again in their lives. Now those, whose courage
had failed in the past, were full of confidence, conviction and the ability to speak in Jesus name.
Their weak faith was set alight; their confusion removed; their voices loud and clear in a
language everyone could understand no translations needed! There crowds assembled in
Jerusalem could hear them speaking their own language!
Over to us now! We have to do the same today. Sometimes we are fearful, apologetic and
uncertain in expressing our beliefs. With the power of the Holy Spirit, we too can speak of the
things of God p our faith with conviction. And we know too, that our actions speak louder
than words.
Let us ask the Holy Spirit of God to come afresh into our lives and give us the courage of
our convictions to be his witnesses today. That means standing up for Gospel values;
remembering the words and promises of Jesus and seeing it as both a task and privilege to
proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.
A final CONGRATULATIONS to all our First Communion children and thanks to leaders,
parents and all involved in our celebrations.
THANKS to all who have begun to support my Parachute Jump on 1st June. Please
continue the support. Thank you.
