Relationships
Ezra Pound- met when I was 15 years old.
We became engaged in 1905
Together, we were powerful and played influential roles in Imagism,
along with Richard Aldington, my future husband.
Both Richard and I were interested in writing about Greece, and us
three began meeting in Europe, and this was the beginning of our work
in the Imagist movement.
Imagism- Three main principles of imagism stated by Pound were:
Direct treatment of the thing, whether subjective or objective
To use absolutely no word that does not contribute to the presentation
For rhythm, writing was to be composed in musical phrase, not
metronome
Basically, the objective of Imagism was to be concise in what we were
writing about and to create an image in the readers mind that is
powerful.
I married Richard Aldington in 1913 and we had a stillborn baby in
1915, in which Richard took on a mistress shortly after.
He went to fight in World War I and was not the same when he
returned, so we split.
Bryher, or Annie Winifred Ellerman, was a great friend of my life long
companion and mine.
Our friendship blossomed into love and we lived together in London
during World War II.
