miling is a form of nonverbal communication that

is recognized among all
cultures, religions, races, and
backgrounds.
Recent studies and research have
found that the power of one smile can
have lasting effects on ones health and
lifestyle.
Here are four reasons to start smiling
more often:
Smiling Relieves Stress

Everyday life can be demanding

and overwhelming at times. Friends,
family, school and work demands may
cause more stress than one can handle.
When under large amounts of pressure,
the body releases high levels of stress
hormones known as Cortisol, according
to www.bestofyoutoday.com. Smiling
reduces levels of Cortisol, which relaxes
the body and allows it to cope with
heightened stress.

Smiting Boosts Immune System

Since stress hormones decrease
when we smile, certain antibodies and
immune cells are allowed to increase.
According to www.healthguidance.
org, Smiling brings out optimism, which
in turn aids the recovery process.
In turn, these immune cells help
the body fight off illnesses such as
the common cold, according to www.
healthguidance.org. It has also been
.demonstrated that cancer patients who
have regular visits and moral support
are more likely to recover.

www.deltadentalok.org, "99.7 percent of adults say an attractive smile is an important personal asset."

Smiling Increases Happiness

When people smile or laugh, their
bodies release endorphins, which serve
as a natural stress and pain reliever.
These are the same group of hormones
responsible for the "runners high."
"When I smile it pretty much tricks
my brain into thinking I'm happy' said
Chiara Amato, a freshman studying
health science.
According to www.forbes.com,
British researchers found that one
smile can generate the same level of
brain stimulation as up to 2,000 bars of
chocolate. The same study also found
that smiling is as stimulating as receiving
up to $25,000 in cash!

INTERESTING FACT
On average, women smile almost 8 times more than men.
