    Types of Abrasions

    Scratch - caused by sharp


    instruments
    (pins, thorn, finger- nail)
    Graze- contact between the skin and
    some rough surface
    Pressure abrasion- caused by
    crushing of the superficial layers of
    the epidermis (bruising may occur)
    Impact abrasion- caused by impact
    with a rough object (bruising may
    occur)

    Clean the Cut
    Stop the Bleeding

    When to Call the Doctor


    The wound is on your face.
    The edges of the cut are jagged or gape open
    (may needstitches)
    You can't get all of the dirt or debris out of the wound
    When the wound was caused by a dirty or rusty object
    You havent had atetanus shotin the past 5 years.
    The wound is from an animal or human bite.
    The injured area feels numb.
