mechanism

Design

Since the project uses most of the

standard components there are no more
mechanical design parameters associated
with the project
The calculations part involves calculating
the time for the required depth of cut i.e
the cutter to lower down to cut the bar
and come back to the starting position.
Since the heart of the project is rotary
encoder which determines the amount o
bar to fed by feeders, calculating the ppr
of rotary encoder is the major criterion.

Time required for cutter to lower

down and come back to start
After the data has be entered using
the keypad, the bar feeding starts.
The bar is fed to the required length
and the feeder stops. Now the cutter
starts to lower down
From experimental observations it
has been observed that:
Time required for a depth of cut of 21
mm = 57 seconds

Rotary encoder calculations

The ppr of rotary encoder: 80
for one revolution the rotary encoder
give a ppr of 80
The diameter of feed wheel used is
70 mm

Therefore the circumference of the fed

wheel is
2 Pi R or Pi x D

Circumference = 0719 ft
Therefore for one revolution the
wheel travels a distance of .719 ft or
For one revolution the wheel feeds a
bar of 0.719 ft
Similarly for 0.719 ft the rotary
encoder outputs 80 pulses
Therefore relating these to

Number of pulses for 1 Ft

Number of pulses for one ft
= 80/0.719
=111.266 Pulses
Therefore to feed a bar of 1 ft it considers
111.2 pulses.
Therefore to feed a bar of L feet = L x
111.266 pulses.
This is how the project calculates the exact
feed and feeds the bar of required length
