When we first began this unit, you brainstormed a series of
questions related to our overarching question: How do we
empathize with people impacted by human migration?
o Why do we need to empathize with people migrating?
o How are people impacted by migration?
o What do you mean by empathize? What is empathy?
o What is human migration?
o What is empathy?
o Why do people migrate?
o Why does it matter? Why is this important?
o Why do we show empathy?
o Does origin of migration impact our ability to empathize?
Pick one or two of the subsidiary questions and reflect on them
below. How has your thinking evolved? Write a paragraph or
so to demonstrate high quality reflection and growth.

Reconsider the following quotes:

Empathy isnt just listening, its asking the questions whose answers
need to be listened to. Empathy requires inquiry as much as
imagination. Empathy requires knowing you know nothing. Empathy
means acknowledging a horizon of context that extends perpetually
beyond what you can see.
Leslie Jamison, The Empathy Exams: Essays
Empathy comes from the Greek empatheia - em (into) and pathos
(feeling) - a penetration, a kind of travel. It suggests you enter another
person's pain as you'd enter another country, through immigration and
customs, border crossing by way of query: What grows where you are?
What are the laws? What animals graze there?
