Dimension 4: Skills in Teaching

The following artifact is a video clip of a lesson I conducted on zero and negative
exponents at John V. Lindsay Wildcat Academy Charter School in the Common Core Algebra 1
class. At the beginning of the clip, I go over base and exponent before modeling an activity for
them. Students participate in the class discussion, remaining focused and attentive as I proceeded
with my line of questioning. At 5 minutes and 40 seconds, students worked in pairs on a mini
worksheet, where they would discover anything raised to the zero power would result in one.
Following the discussion after the pair work, students were given the option of working on the
class-work in pairs or individually at 13minutes and 40 seconds. The clip shows transitioning
between the mini-lesson, pair work, individual work, and class discussions. I believe this shows
my skills in teaching.
