Married - Lives with wife
He is a big man (BMI 29) Very tall (210 cms)
Has been very active / hard worker all his life
Obviously very upset at not being able to work
For past five years lots of hip pain
Now suffering from constant pain
Examination reveals little range of movement (ROM) in hip
flexion/extension

Task
- Recommend he undergoes a hip replacement procedure
- Persuade him that a hip replacement will be the right thing for the
longer term
- Explain what his lifestyle will be like with his new hip joints (able
to play golf again)

You are sick of the pain in your hips now constant really fed up.
You just want relief.
You dont like being retired dont know how to fill in your day.
Your hip pain stops you from playing grass bowls and golf.
The pain makes it difficult for you to sit down and get up.

- You want something really strong for the pain.


When the doctor recommends a hip replacement operation, strongly
resist the idea.
You hate the idea of being cut open and being under the knife
You just want some strong drugs to keep the pain at bay.

Eventually, you agree with the Doctors recommendations to have


the operation.
