DESIGN BRIEF
Client Company:

Hobby Spectacle, Inc.

Target
Consumer:

Society

Problem
Statement:

A leading hobby company is looking to

improve an existing launcher design.
The device must launch a projectile
using the materials provided. The device
must be adjustable so that projectile
launches can be precise at varying
distances. The winning design will
receive cash for a patent that can be
mass-produced as a kit and sold to the
public. Members from the company will
be present during the launching phase
of the process.

Design
Statement:

Build and test a device that will launch a

projectile varying distances with
precision and accuracy. Make
improvements as needed to meet
constraints.

Constraints:

1. Must be adjustable to different angles

including: 10, 20,30, 40, 45, 50, 60, 70,
80 degrees.
2. Must have the same initial velocity at
any adjusted angle.
3. Must launch a projectile at least 15 ft.

REFLECTIONS
A-

We learned that you should read the instruction carefully and get it right the first
time, and upon discovering a mistake, go BACK and fix it, rather than try and correct for it.
DONT put your ballistic device on stilts, because that just leads to more problems.

B-

With the challenges of working in a design team, the challenges came down to the
level of communication that we had to develop as a group. In communication, it was
important in the very beginning to speak with one another. We werent great at that at
first, and that went poorly. A1

C-

The purpose of the design problem is to provide us with a written outline for what
the design has to accomplish. We would attempt to solve these design problems by
designing, modifying, and coding for the ballistic device.

REFERENCES
Other than the instructions for the robot and the notes we were given with formulas
for calculating ranges, we didnt really have any use for citable sources to obtain other
information. If we were to make modifications to our ballistic device, we may have needed
to cite where our inspiration came from.
