MY PORTFOLIO

My name is Shellisa Mitchell, I was born and raised in Detroit, MI. I have a daughter
name Precious Starlisa Mitchell, who is my motivation to complete my educational goals. She
inspires me to be a studious person and to help others. My declaration to people is to become
precious stars to uplift the world. I have worked at various hospitals, nursing care centers, and I
have volunteered in the community, where I utilized a lot of social work skills and abilities to
help diverse populations. I attended WCCCD, where I earned an Associate of Arts. I am so proud
to be a part of Wayne State University WOW BSW Program. Moreover, I am in the last semester
of the BSW program, and I am excited to graduate in Spring/Summer 2016. My life express so
many social work experiences in which I have shown compassion, support and help to the
oppressed and vulnerable. My goal is to further my education in the MSW program, where I can
receive more growth and development in social work practice.
This social work portfolio fulfills major requirements for the Bachelor of Social Work
(B.S.W.) degree at the Wayne State University School of Social Work. The content in this

portfolio expresses my learning journey throughout the WOW B.S.W. Program. Additionally, it
documents my readiness for service in the social work profession. The importance of this
portfolio reflects my knowledge and work ethic to fulfill the required competencies of social
work. Also, it will show my growth and skills needed to better serve the oppressed and the
vulnerable.
In my portfolio, there are organize tabs containing the table of contents, a submission
letter, my resume and a personal statement, which gives detail of my career journey and why
social work is important to me. The required competencies reflect my learning within the courses
I took at Wayne State University to satisfy the B.S.W. requirements. Additionally, there are tabs
regarding the appendixes detailing awards, evaluations, three letters of reference, personal
learning goals, transcripts, reflection assignments referring to my perception concerning social
work practice and a contact form. This portfolio provides a wealth of information about the skills
and competencies I obtained throughout B.S.W. Program. Moreover, I am prepared to work in
the social work field with the skills and knowledge I have learned. However, while completing
my portfolio, I reflected on the learning assignments which showed my growth and development
from beginning to the end of the BSW program.
