Experiment :6

To verify the Current Division Rule.

Apparatus:
1. Resistor.
2. Ammeter.
3. Voltmeter.

Circuit Diagram:

Where
R1=553 kohm
R2=382 kohm
R3=14.1 kohm

Theory:
Current Division:
Current Division is used to express the current through one of the
several parallel resistors in terms of the current through the combination.

I1=(R1/R1+R2+R3)Is
I2=(R2/R1+R2+R3)Is
I3=(R3/R1+R2+R3)Is

Procedure:

1.Construct the circuit shown below. Measure the resistance of each resistor using an
ohmmeter
2. Measure the voltage across each resistor using the DMM.
3. Calculate the current through each resistor using Ohms Law, the measured voltage across
each resistor.
4.Calculate the currents through each resistor using CDR.
5.Compare the calculated and theoretical values and determine the percentage errors.
