Task 4: Reflective practice 11/6/14 Chance and data/Poetry Today was day two of my teaching placement experience. | came to school with less nerves and more confidence which was inevitable. My chance and data lesson ran smoothly and | took my AAT feedback on working on clearly giving instructions to students before letting them start the activity. This was not only evident in my feedback from my associate teacher but the children working. Student's engagement throughout the Chance and data lesson was positive because | liked the results to the class. Students were egger to do all activities including the extra worksheet | had planned. Throughout this lesson | questioned students to deepen their understanding of chance and data which was also evident in their work. Although all good feedback from my associate teacher | do believe | could have spent a longer period or more lessons on graphs as a whole, Students understood the concept of having a legend, title, axis ect however more depth could have been added to this lesson as data and, displaying data is important in students education. The poetry lesson went well. However it was evident in my practice and with the feedback given that a more in depth brainstorm could have been used and recorded. it would have helped going through “Limerick” together on the white board to deepen students understanding, However students were very engaged the entire lesson and showed much determination with their own limericks. The students thoroughly enjoyed making their own up and the concept of by the end of the week will have their own poetry books. After getting to know my students over numerous months | am weary of struggling students. My associate teacher acknowledge and noted how well | was able to identify students who needed more direction privately. This is something strive to do and identify in my lessons because after ‘observing for a year | watch these students fall behind, Obviously not always going to have the time to put aside to help struggling students but | am aware and will try to the best of my ability.
