Various of landforms in the Canadian Shield


region are Precambrian rocks and marshy
depression.
Water bodies are huge in this region.
Thousands of lakes are located in the
Canadian Shield.
Landscape in Canadian Shield can be
described as rocky and wet.

Vegetation
A variety of plants are growing in this region.
Such as Jack Pine, marsh reed grass and
Bearberry.

Wildlife
Animals in this region include the Peregrine
Falcon, the Golden Eagle, and the Arctic Fox.
The reason why they can live here is they
have adapted to the cold climate.

Formation

The Canadian Shield was formed when two


tectonic plates Splice converged. The surface
rock went into the interior of the earth, melt,
rise back to the surface and slowly cool.
Glaciation during the most recent ice age
made Canadian Shield has thin soil with rocky
outcroppings.

Climate
Depending on area
North cold winter(-18C) & cool summer(24C)
South cold winter(-15C) & hot summer(30C)

Economy
Valuable minerals: copper, gold, diamond,
platinum, nickel
At least 140 mining sites in the shield.

Places of interest
Churchill
It is one of the few human settlements
where polar bears can be observed in the
wild.
October and November are often the best
viewing time for passengers.
