Teachers at our school have very little support from the principal. Discipline issues are handled very lightly at OCES

2/1/2016 8:36 AM

now. I do not use the office this year for my discipline issues at all. Many staff members know that they do not need to
follow procedures/rules/etc. at our school; there are truly no consequences. If a staff member does something
inappropriate an email is sent out to the ENTIRE staff instead of the person who needs to be spoken to; this has gone
on for years. So then the person who is doing the act never knows who he is speaking to. There are teachers who
spend most of the day at their desk, teachers who SCREAM at their students more often than speak to them, teachers
who are texting throughout the day, logging onto Facebook, etc, having affairs, etc.. I am deeply concerned for the
future of our school with such a decline in several teacher's professional behavior. They will continue this behavior
because they know nothing will truly ever happen to them. Very sad, but true.

I absolutely love Mr. Hook as a person and I loved him as a principal until this year. This year I do not feel supported. I

1/27/2016 3:56 PM

don't feel his heart is in it. Some situations at our school are getting embarrassing. We have parents complaining
about affairs that are happening within our system, complaining about teachers using their cell phones regularly during
class time, and many other things. I used to be so proud to say I worked at Oasis and for the first time, I've actually
been embarrassed lately. I love this school and l love my job, but there are some inappropriate situations lately. No
one is held accountable for anything and it's starting to show. We're rarely observed and when we are, it's very quick
and the feedback is either very generic or it doesn't make sense. It almost sounds like he just made part of the
observation up. I love Oasis and I want to see it continue to be a great school!
4

I have taught here for 4 years, for 6 years I was previously at a public school in Lee County and I love love love my job.

1/27/2016 12:24 PM

I feel that anyone working here is very privileged as are the children. However, I do not feel it will continue to be "the
best place to work" and "the best education" if some things are not changed. Policies need to be put in place for all
staff to equally commit to their job and do it the best they can. They are not held accountable by admin so many
people do not go above and beyond in the best interest of the school. I have three children in the system and I want
them to continue to have an amazing experience with great teachers doing their job. Cell phones, social media, people
having affairs, I'm over it! Thank you for putting the survey out! I love Mr. Hook, and I think that he is a great man and
leader, but I feel like maybe this year he isn't in it the same and people are taking advantage of that.
5

Mr. Hook is a tremendously kind and caring guy. Problem I see is that he simply is unwilling to hold people

1/27/2016 8:32 AM

accountable. Several of my fellow teachers should no longer be here however, he seems to shy away from
confrontation. Again, he is amazingly personable however, we need someone to actually start holding them
accountable. Maybe Mr. F will grow into that person?
6

I'm assuming this is for the main principal. That is how I filled this out. The assistant principal is doing an amazing

1/26/2016 9:01 PM

job!!!!
7

I am disappointed by the way the elementary school is ran. The teachers are cruel and foul. They have their groups

1/26/2016 2:18 PM

and create a hostile work environment if they dislike you. This is overlooked by administration. Numerous times I
went to administration. Finally, it was blamed on me because the person I called out has a conflict of interest with the
principal. I was then told I would never win the publicity battle. It wasn't about what was right or wrong, it was about
appearances. I was shocked to hear from other teachers that it was a common thing and many teachers had been run
out due to the behavior of these "groups" of teachers and if they didn't like you then they would make your life hell until
you left the school. And, administration would not do anything about it. Teachers do not respect or treat the clinic staff
well. There is a reason why the elementary school has difficulty keeping clinic help. Until someone is willing to address
the behavior and attitude of the teachers, that is not going to change. The elementary school is a hostile and toxic work
environment.
8

Mr. Hook is the best principal I have ever worked for. He is a great leader and an excellent role model for our students,

1/26/2016 1:53 PM

staff, and community. Thank you, Mr. Hook!

9

The principal fosters a care and caring environment for the staff as well as for parents and students.

1/26/2016 12:21 PM

10

I do feel safe at this school but I think that looking into a gate in the front and putting a door exiting the office into the

1/26/2016 12:01 PM

breezeway would be a much safer environment. This ensures visitors have to enter the office before they are given
access to the school.
11

My biggest concerns are lack of discipline with staff and students when issues arise. I feel that issues are not taken

1/26/2016 11:59 AM

seriously and are not followed through with in an appropriate manner.

12

I feel that even with his health/medical issues, Mr. Hook has been more approachable this year than in prior years. I
contribute that to the reassignment of the assistant principals. Nothing against Mr. Brown, but Mr. Hook seems more
professional without Mr. Brown than when he is around. Mr. Hook is wonderful with children. However, discipline
issues with staff (i.e. chronic tardiness, professional behavior, appropriate dress) don't ever seem to get addressed. I'd
like him to realize that in school, he is our boss, not our friend. I still feel that we are lacking in Professional
Development. I know funds are tight, but send teachers to trainings and workshops and allow them to provide a
training for the staff. I would like to see administration in the classrooms more.

1/26/2016 11:54 AM

Our principal is always present for after school events, often leading the charge. He really exemplifies the spirit of
family and high expectations at Oasis Elem!
