PUBLIC COMMUNICATION
The General Council of Williche Chiefs of Chilorepresented by its Highest Chief, Armando
Llaitureo Manquemillaconstructed the following legal actions in response to the humancaused ecological catastrophe in Chilo and which it addressed to different national and
international human rights organizations:

A request was submitted to the National Institute for Human Rights (INDH) in Chile,
asking them to send a team to evaluate the impact that this catastrophe is currently
having on Williche families and communities homed in the west coasts of Chilo.
Additionally, the Council of Chiefs has requested, in light of the Chilean Law of Transparency
(Law 20.285), that DIRECTEMAR and the Regional Department of Health of Los Lagos Region
(SEREMI DE SALUD DE LA REGIN DE LOS LAGOS) submit all records they keep regarding the
dumping of dead salmon into the sea and its environmental consequencesthis information
has not yet been made available to affected communities in Chilo.

The General Council of Williche Chiefs of Chilo calls on the civic society of Chilo and on its
scientific and technical professionals to share and reproduce these legal actions in order to
continue to defend our Mapu uke (Mother Earth), our Lafken Mapu and all the people of
Chilo.
