Physical Development and Health


Average Height: 20 inches
Average Weight: 7 pounds
Can move body parts such as arms and legs and hands and can hold
objects in their hands but not for a long period of time.
Cannot support head lifting on its own, needs head support.
At three months, vision is improved.

Language Development and Communication


Cries for assistance, makes some sounds.
Shows facial expressions, vocalizes.
Begins cooing one syllable words.

Approaches To Learning
Searches for sources of sound; shows obvious preference.
Stops sucking, listens attentively to sounds.

Cognitive Development
Prefers to look at human faces and pattern object; listens attentively to
sounds.
Cries for assistance: uses new forms of interacting.

Emotional Development
Reacts to discomfort or pain; shows expressions such as anger, distress,
delight and etc.
Can quiet themselves; shows feelings of security.
Whimpers when angry, chortles when content.

Social Development

Doesnt understand itself as a separate person.


Is comforted by seeing a human face; quiets when being held.
Makes eye contact, looks at people directly and alertly.
Shows affection when looking at people.
