Indian Cuisine History

Indian cuisine dates back 5,000 years ago when India welcomed settlers who brought a
wide variety of different cultures. These cultures, brought about different types foods, cooking
methods, and thus created a lot of diversity that is present in India today. First, the 2 big groups
who have had the biggest impact today in India are Hindus and Muslims, each bringing their
own food to the table. Hindus brought their vegetarian cuisine, while Muslims mainly dominated
in the meats, except pork. The vegetarian cuisine involves rice, rice cakes, and rice pancakes.
Also there is naan bread, with various curries. With Muslims, there is meatballs, biryani with a
meat dish. Additionally, Muslims introduced tandoor which Hindus started using.

The Indian cuisine has helped influence the culture of India in many ways. As mentioned
before, the settlers that brought different cultures and foods has helped create diversity in India.
Diversity is a key component in a culture, and different areas in India share different cultures,
creating diversity. Also, the cuisine has helped shaped the culture by encouraging a vegetarian
lifestyle. In addition, the Indian cuisine has led to Hinduism being the prominent religion in
India, and religion is part of culture. In conclusion, the Indian cusine dates back long ago, and
the settlers that have settled have shaped the culture of India.
