POOR LISTENING STYLES

By Destiny Gonzalez

SPACING
OUT
When someone is talking to
you and you ignore them
because you are too caught
up in your own thoughts.

PRETEND LISTENING
When you pretend to
listen to somebody and
say things like uhhuh or yeah just to
make them think you are
listening to them.

SELECTIVE LISTENING
When someone is talking
to you, but you only
listen to the part you
want to hear and then
talk about it.

WORD LISTENING
When you listen when
someone is talking to you,
but you listen to their
words not their body
language so you dont
know how they really feel.

SELF-CENTERED LISTENING
Judging: When we listen to others, but
judge them in our minds as we are
listening.
Advising: When we give others advice
thats from our own experiences.
Probing: When you try to get someone
to tell you how they feel before they
actually tell you because they want to.
