The following is a sample of the lesson plan format used by the University.

At the conclusion of this lesson, the students will know/understand that:


Build on comprehension knowledge through reading and discussing a story.
At the conclusion of this lesson, the students will demonstrate the skills/strategies of:
Answering questions through reading a story/ finding where the event may have occurred.
Assessment:
Teacher roves around room and determines how students are progressing offering additional support where
required.

Assessment criteria for analysis:

Students can answer questions in relation to the story read


Students can identify where to find information throughout text
Students can create their own sentences in relation to a part of the story

Teaching focus:
Teaching skills that the pre-service teacher would like to personally develop.
- Instructions are clear and everybody understands the task to complete.

Students will revise the story read previously and recall and share (put hand up) to
explain what happens in the story.
Speak about front cover and what each element might mean in relation to story.
Development

Students will be read the little red hen (Sunshine Online) on the interactive whiteboard
Questioning and prompting ideas their heads throughout reading.
Story will be read again, with students reading along together teacher pointing to the
words.
Further questions will be asked after reading the story to see how much the students
understood (comprehended).
Teacher will explain the instructions of how to complete the comprehension worksheet
giving an example from the first question Questions will gradually become harder.

Consolidation, practice, extension

Students will go back to their tables and receive a work sheet of questions to complete.
If students are struggling they may work with a partner to help answer difficult questions
Teacher will assist with spelling etc, this may be written on the whiteboard.
If student are finding the task very difficult teacher will provide a little support group on the
floor and questions will be completed together.
Extension: Those who finish early will be provided with another task (attached)

Closure

Students will glue their sheets into their red dot books. Teacher will choose 2-3 students
to share their answers everyone will tidy up and the tidiest table will get their fruit first
for fruit break.
