Apollo 11

I wish to commemorate with a memorial Apollo 11. Apollo 11 was the

first spaceflight to land and deliver a human safely on the moon. The primary
objective of Apollo 11 was to complete a national goal set by President John
F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961: perform a crewed lunar landing and return to
Earth (Dunbar). In July 17, 1969 Apollo 11 launched from the Cape Kennedy,
carrying Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins
and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin "Buzz". Around 530 million people watched and
heard Armstrong televised image describing the events as he took "...one
small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" on July 20, 1969.
There is actually a plaque on the moon left by Apollo 11 Astronauts, it
says "Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the Moon July 1969,
A.D. We came in peace for all mankind" (The). However there is not a
memorial built for the spaceflight on earth. I plan to place this memorial on
Washington D.C. Placing this memorial on the capital of the United States
would allow more people to see it since tourists from all over the world go to
museums and other memorials (Record).

Apollo 11 was a big achievement for mankind especially for Americans

since they were the first ones to land on the moon. This memorial would be
built the American people to remember the big event that took place in the
morning of 96 but also to the world because at the end they represented
humankind. I want everyone that sees my memorial feel proud of being the
most amazing specie in the universe a Human.
For this memorial I decided to design a statute where a three
astronauts would be looking up standing near an American flag and a
spacecraft behind them. The memorial floor would be built out of igneous
rock (Granite) which is a special kind of granite to make it look like the moon
surface, the astronauts will be made out of white granite which will make it
look like an space suit and the spacecraft will be made out of different types
of granite, copper and silver will be use to make it look more realistic.
I want everyone that sees my memorial to remember that we humans
are not limited, we limit ourselves, but if we have the will, one day it will not
be the moon it will be the stars and far from that the whole universe will be
in our hands.
