finished students conduct their investigation.
Evaluate: Students complete an after mind map on natural disasters as a whole.
Lesson Outcomes:
Students will be able to predict which material will be the most effective in reducing the
impact of a tsunami.
Students will be able to identify different ways they will keep their investigations safe.
Students will be able to record their results and draw conclusions.

Lesson Introduction (whole group focus):

Lesson Reflection:
(What would you change? Why?
Be more explicit in modelling- how to measure the water, template

Provide the students with pre-made tables, they didnt have an understanding of how to draw a table and
how to correctly insert data.

Provide the students with an extra sock and other selected materials. There was significant gaps in some of
the childrens sandbag walls across the container and therefore a lot of water was getting through. If we
gave them another sock and more materials, they could build the wall up better and therefore gain a more
accurate result in their investigations.

Too much content in one lesson. We would move the mind map and unit evaluation to another separate
lesson if we had more time. This would mean we could spend the whole lesson summarising properly and
undertaking assessment on what we had covered over the past five weeks. We were too rushed and felt we
didnt cover each activity properly. For example, the children could have had a significant amount of time
to complete their mind map and think about the knowledge they learnt over the five weeks, not just ten
minutes.
