This rubric outlines the criteria and scoring breakdown for assessing a 6th grade engineering bridge project. Students will be evaluated on their portfolio (45%), prototype bridge model (10%), individual and group essays (15% total), completed full-scale bridge (20%), and final presentation (5%). An additional 5% of the total score is based on meeting all deadlines. The portfolio is the most heavily weighted component and should comprehensively document the entire design and construction process. It must include items like group information, planning materials, research, and the group essay. A prototype and working bridge model matching project specifications will also be constructed and evaluated prior to the final bridge build.

Portfolio: Should contain all documentation from the process and
construction of the entire project. Do not throw anything away. The portfolio should be in presentable format and should include, but not limited to, the following documentation. Group or Company Name Daily writings and reflections Logo, Motto or Slogan Time- Line and schedules Draft, sketches, and illustrations Groups essay- (3 to 5 pages) Materials lists Research on your bridge designexamples
Portfolio inspection and working prototype
due__________ Paperwork inspection is to give students guidance before final due date-should have everything but not perfect. Bridge sketch, prototype materials list, and working prototype should match
Prototype: Prototype or model should be presentable, in working
order, resemble the final product, and match materials list for prototype in exquisite detail. Can be graded early but must be complete before final construction. Essays: Each group member will provide an individual essay and together write a group essay. Recommended topics include detailed examples of pitfalls and highlights from the project, reviews of group members, the engineering and design process, project completion, overall class assessment, recommendations for future engineers/ students. They should be neat and free of mistakes. Group essay is due at project presentation and included in portfolio. Individual essays will only be shared between author and the instructor and handed in separately. Completed Bridge: Final bridge should fit dimensions and specifications and be presentable. The dimensions are listed below. Extra credit available for added difficulty, creativity, and/ or Reduce Reuse and Recycle ideas. 1) Must be able to withstand passing over and under by radio controlled car (4oz.) 2) Clearance of at least 10 cm wide and height
Cross the lake template (approximately 40 cm)
Presentation: Done by the entire team in front of the class and staff; Schedule time. On-Time: The portfolio, bridges, essays, presentation, and completed project by 3)
