Objective: Improve the ability and confidence of conversational English levels of adults in our communities
Summary: Volunteers work with a detailed curriculum to prepare and provide English lessons for adults in the communities of El Cocal and Damas.
Report: The current Adult English course in Cocal has been running since April 2014. This month marked the beginning of our program in Damas. We have consolidated the existing curriculum and are revising the highly important basics of grammar, form and pronunciation. The volunteers have had successful classes with large groups of adults representing a variety of abilities, ages and occupations. Many hours of preparation went into ensuring organized, relevant, welcoming and dynamic lessons. So far, we have covered topics such as the alphabet and laid the foundation for further language study. The volunteers greatly enjoyed their time delivering these free lessons, especially after seeing the need and enthusiasm from the students. We are constantly working to prepare material to cover the most necessary English vocabulary and grammar in a logical sequence. Within the planned curriculum, there is room for flexibility to best meet the needs of the individual students. GVI Quepos is excited to see the program continue to grow and serve the communities this year and into the future.
