The success of TATRA vehicles spread so widely among the public that, in 1927, the ‘management changed the original name “Kopfivnicki Vozovka, ple" to “Tatra Works ple” (,Zivody Tatras.) In 1921 work began on a new, modem car factory and Leopold Pasching took the place of the deceased director at Kopfivnicka Vozovka. The new director recalled the designer, Hans Ledwinka, from Austria, where he had moved following disagreement with the former director of the company. In 1925, at the request of the army, Kopfivnicka Vozovka began work on a three-axled vehicle using parts available from series production of the TI2. The result of development was a new three-axled chassis with rear-wheel drive, named the T26, which the army began testing in December 1926, Testing of the chassis brought a very favourable impression, especially for its durability and driving capability in rough terrain, In 1930 the army took delivery of a perfected version with a more powerful engine, classified as the T26/30 model.
