1. Define the following terms:


Aquifer
A formation that contains sufficient saturated permeable material to yield
significant quantities of water to wells and springs. This implies an ability to
store and to transmit water.

Groundwater table
The upper level of an underground surface in which the soil or rocks are
permanently saturated with water. The water table separates the
groundwater zone that lies below it from the capillary fringe, or zone of
aeration, that lies above it.

Transmissivity
The rate at which water can be transmitted through a unit strip of aquifer
under unit hydraulic gradient.
