Materials for childrens language should


comprise of familiar objects.
Apples
Chocolate and lollies
Teddy bears
Books and pens
Pets
Mats with settings and images etc.
During this stage the teacher may use
more general and open ended
materials. The materials should have
one or more attribute to encourage
sorting in groups.
Students are still using the complex
materials during this stage. As
mentioned the attribute blocks are
invaluable due to their diverse
attributes, sorting chart, circles to sort,
cups or contains, the process of actually
doing the sorting using attribute blocks
as a resource.

This may include group by


groups of using their similarities
or differences, different same
like thinner thicker smaller
bigger using colours

sorting. Students will be drawing
pictures and involving in kinesthetic
learning.

The language in this stage is very


similar to childrens language,
however the teacher may
encourage students to extend their
vocabulary.
Examples of language may include
word choices lighter, heavier,
longer, shorter, more than or less
than, number of sides and angles.
