Problem

8.5% of Brazils
population is
deemed extreme
poverty

Naercio Menez
believes that it is
difficult to become
rich in Brazil if you
are born poor.

People affected by
inequality in Brazil
are generally from
the same racial
background.

43%

Of our world population is living in poverty

People at risk arent getting the

attention they need
Brazil is one of the most unequal countries on the planet.
Says the professor of economics, Naercio Menezes.

Why

10

Poverty is reducing
but the world is still
an unequal place
Inequality in
Focus's article
compares how
China's income
inequality has
increased while in
Brazil it has
decreased.

The statistic are

deemed to be
inaccurate
considering how
many people are
actually being
affected by income
inequality due to
racial and gender
inequality.

Reflection

Convincing my audience that gender inequality is an issue was a more difficult task
than I believed it would be since Brazil is not categorized as a developing country when it is
compared to the statistics of the entire worlds inequality. For example, they have already
taken action to affect inequality and their inequality has decreased over the past 5 years
dramatically. This does not mean that Brazil is the most developed and modern country, it
tells us that there are ways to improve even though people in a economically advanced place
like Brazil, there are things we can do to help people who are still being impacted by
inequality. The poverty rates have decreased and wages have increased, therefore people are
getting more jobs and women have just as much opportunity as men. At first when I created
my blog, I was unsure of what would attract an audience and I realised that I have to first
inform them of the issue and using Noodletools, it was easy to add convincing factual
information to spread awareness. I also started a petition which was targeted to my audience
and the governments in Brazil. The petition raised more awareness than I planned it would,
which was beneficial to my cause and proved how I was informing people about inequality in
Brazil. I wanted to add more media such as videos or social media accounts but I decided
that a blog would hold all my action and it was more organized that way. I also wanted to
group up with people in my class with similar topics and we could combine and make a
bigger impact. But I could not find people with the same topic as me and I did not want to
overflow my presentations.
