Recommended fabrics: Lightweight cotton fabrics.
Preparations
Draft the following pieces:
a) cap piece,
diameter: 28 - 29-30-32-32em
(11 1/8~ 11 1/2~ 12-12 3/4~ 12 3/4 ins),
b) edge piece,
length: 38 - 41 ~ 45 ~ 49 -51.em
(15-16 1/4~ 17 3/4-191/4~ 20 1/4 ins)
width: 6 cm (21/2 ins) finished width 3 cm
(1.1/4 ins).
Seam allowance to be added:
Seams and edges 1 cm (3/8 in).

Sewing
Gather outer edge of cap piece to 38 - 41 ~ 45 ~ 49 ~ 51 cm (15 - 16 1/4-
17 3/419 1/4—20 1/4 ins). Stitch ends of edge strip together. Press seam
allowances open. Press allowance on one long edge of strip to wrong side.
Stitch opposite edge to cap piece. Turn edge down. Press allowances onto
edge strip. Fold strip half to inside, baste over joining seam, and stitch from
right side, close to seam.
Measure and mark 6 cm (21/2 ins) to each side of seam on edge strip. Cut
40 - 43 ~ 47 ~ 51 - 53 em (15 3/4~ 17 - 18 1/220 1/421 ins) of peter-
sham ribbon, Pin petersham ribbon to edge of cap, 5 mm (3/16 in) from
lower edge. Begin and end at the seam and turning under end of ribbon
Which lies on top. Edgestitch petersham ribbon between markings, to form
casing for elastic. Pull elastic under petersham ribbon and stitch across one
‘end at marking. Pull second end of elastic and stitch across itso that it
measures 9 cm (3 1/2 ins) when finished. Trim end of elastic. Edgestitch re-
maining ribbon in place.
Lay a 13 cm (5 1/4 in) long piece of petersham ribbon in a bow. Sew ends
together at centre of bow. Fold a 4 cm (1.5/8 in) long piece of ribbon to
half its width, lay around centre of bow, and sew to back of bow. Sew bow
to edge of hat at centre front (opposite seam).
