DIGNITY DRIVE : NOW NO MORE NEGLETED

THE CHALLENGE
Unclean water and a lack of basic sanitation are undermining efforts to end
extreme poverty and disease in the poorest states in India. Together, unclean water
and poor sanitation are a leading cause of child morality. Numbers of children die
every day from diarrhoea, spread through poor sanitation and hygiene. Women are
more than twice as likely as men to be responsible for water collection. On average,
women and girls walk six kilometres each day to collect water- time which could be
spent in school or at work.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The links between a lack of water and sanitation access and DIGNITY DRIVE are
clear, and the solutions to the problem are known and cost effective.
PROGRAMME DETAILS
Because, the global water and sanitation crisis is a symptom and a cause of poverty
for so many millions of the worlds poorest people.
The Water drive aims to promote efforts to fulfil international commitments made
on water and water related issues by 2019. Focus is on furthering cooperation at
all levels, so that the water-related goals can be achieved.
The sanitation drive is an advocacy campaign working to meet the DIGNITY
DRIVES sanitation target and end open defecation. Gram-Utthan is calling on
