David Carson

Biography
 He was born September 8, 1952 in Texas.
 Four years later, Carson and his family moved to New York City.
 In 1980, he took a two week graphics course at the University of
Arizona.
 San Diego State University and Oregon College of Commercial Art.
 In 1983, Carson was working towards a Bachelor of Arts in
Sociology.
 Sociology teacher and professional surfer in the late 1970s.
 Art directed towards music, skateboarding and surfing magazines
through the 1980s.
Professional Career
 Teacher in Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, California.
 Experiment with graphic design.
 Signature style, using "dirty" type and non-mainstream
photographic techniques.
 Art director of Transworld Skateboarding magazine.
 Designer of Ray Gun.
 In 1995, Carson founded his own studio in New York City, called
David Carson Design.
 In 2000, Carson opened a new personal studio in Charleston,
South Carolina.
 In 2004, Carson became the Creative Director of Gibbes Museum
of Art in Charleston .
