INTRODUCTION TO MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS

ASSIGNMENT NO.2
SECTION A

What criteria should an ISP meet in order to fulfill the needs of a small organization?
Connection type: the three most commonly used connection types are; DSL, cable and fiber.
DSL is cheap and also provides low bandwidth. Cables are the most popular, but these
connections share bandwidth, resulting in lower speeds. Fiber connections are the newest and the
most superior, providing with the highest bandwidth out of all three which suits our condition
of high quality video streaming.
Bandwidth Speed: as our organization will not simply be sending and receiving emails, we
require a connection with a good speed
Equipment and installation fees: the installation and equipment fees has to be within range and
not too expensive, as we are not operating on a wide range

The three ISPs that we have chosen are PTCL, Qubee and Wi-Tribe and their comparison is as
follows;
Maximum broadband
speed offered
Data Volume
Installation Charges
Monthly Charges

PTCL
4

QUBEE
3

WI-TRIBE
3

Unlimited
Rs 2,100

40 GB
Rs 1,000

Rs 1,775

Rs 1,399

200 GB
Rs 500 + Rs 1,699
security deposit
Rs 1,699

Taking PTCL under consideration;

A broadband speed of 4 mbps sounds great, as a higher broadband speed is needed for video
streaming. An added bonus is that the data volume offered is unlimited, unlike the other two
choices. While the installation prices seem higher in comparison to the other two, it doesnt make
much of a difference to our decision, as an installation price is a one-time expense.
Taking QUBEE under consideration;
A broadband speed of 3 mbps seems bearable, but a data cap of 40 GB seems highly
unreasonable, especially if we are paying a price of Rs. 1,399 monthly.
Taking WITRIBE under consideration;
Again, a broadband speed of 3 mbps doesnt seem too bad, and the data cap isnt too low either.
The security deposit seems expensive, but it is refundable. And the monthly charges seem
reasonable too.

Our choice;
Taking everything under consideration, PTCL would ultimately be the best choice. As it also
offers the highest broadband speed, and it also has no limit to its data volume. The installation
and monthly charges seem reasonable, considering the facilities and speed it provides.
PTCL also has a 24 hour customer service, which could also help us if any problem arises.
