DESIGN DEVIATION JUSTIFICATION REPORT (DDJR)

DDJR Report No. :

1)

Subject:
Critical Grade Length

2)

Design Standard as per Design Brief:

250m Critical Grade Length for 7% road grade with 25kph speed reduction base on Figure 4-5:
Critical Lengths of Grade for Design for Typical Heavy Truck of 180kg/kW
REAM - A Guide on Geometric of Roads

3)

Design Deviation Description:

250m Critical Grade Length for 7% road grade with 25kph speed reduction base on Figure 4-5:
Critical Lengths of Grade for Design for Typical Heavy Truck of 180kg/kW
Note : refer REAM - A Guide on Geometric of Roads
Chapter 4 (Elements of Design), Page 47

4)

Justification:
The profile design for Ramp 13/F is governed by LDP finished road level and DASH Ramp 13/D finished
road level and also Lot 67335. By using the Figure 4-5, its to be predicted the heavy vehicle speed will
be having 25kph reduction in speed at Chainage 320. Climbing lane are introduce with proper 50m
tapper length when approaching Chainage 320. From this point forward the ramp will be 3.5m two lane
carriageway with 250mm shoulders until it merge back to Ramp 13/D. The existing ramp is consist of
5m single wide lane with 2m shoulder and 0.5m marginal strip totalling of 7.5m wide paved road.
The merging location to Ramp 13/D are chosen by considering the reduction in climbing grade from 7%
to 1.5% with ample length of 150m (from CH 1090 to CH 1240 Ramp 13/D) before the Ramp 13/D profile
start to climbing back to 5% grade.

5)

Mitigation:
40kph Speed Limit traffic sign, and proper lane marking from single wide lane to two lane (climbing lane)
will be installed to inform the road user as indicated in Drawing no.
