Followers steps and leaders steps

There is a difference in attitude and importance

between followers steps and leaders steps.
Importance 1: followers steps
Importance 2: leaders steps
During a dance, the leader creates a choreography
FOR the follower, and accompanies her.
A figure is defined ONLY by the steps of the follower.
In a defined figure, the leader may accompany the
follower in several different accompaniments, and
still it will be considered as the same figure.

Example from the field of singing:

Suppose two singers are performing a song in two

voices. Voice A is the main tune, and voice B is an
accompaniment. If two other singers will perform
the same song, voice A will remain the same but
voice B may be a different accompaniment, and still
we will recognize it to be the same song. That is
because a song is defined by the main tune and not
by the accompaniment.
In Tango the followers steps are considered as
steps A and the leaders steps are considered as
steps B. This is why a figure is defined ONLY by the
steps of the follower (steps A), Just like a song is
defined ONLY by the main tune (voice A).

For example: the back-ocho figure with 3 different

accompaniments of the leader:
1The follower dances a back-ocho
The leader accompanies in cross system.
2The follower dances a back-ocho
The leader accompanies in parallel system.
3The follower dances a back-ocho
The leader accompanies with double steps.
In all the above. the figure danced is the same
figure: back-ocho.
Reminder:
Cross system = followers right foot with leaders
right foot.
followers left foot with leaders left foot.
Parallel system = followers right foot with leaders
left foot.
followers left foot with leaders right
foot.
