Outdoor Adventure
Centre
May Newsletter
5th & 6th classes recently
had a fantastic day out in Baltinglass Resource Centre. They participated in
archery, abseiling, orienteering and canoeing. They really enjoyed their day.
To pay for this trip 5th & 6th classes organised a Spellathon and Bake Sale. The
Bake Sale was a great success and raised approximately 1,120.00. Well done
to teachers and pupils of 5th & 6th classes. Thank you to the parents who
helped out on the morning and to Fruit 4 U Naas for their kind donation of
fruit.
First Holy Communion
Saturday 14th May was a beautiful sunny day for Second Class children to
receive their First Holy Communion. Thank you to Fr. Eamonn & Mr. O
Cathasaigh for making it such a special day. Thank you to all those children
who sang in the choir and parents who helped with teas afterwards.
Camogie/Rugby
Thank you to Amanda Waters for coaching 2nd, 3rd & 4th classes in camogie.
Amanda has finished these sessions. The Tullow Rugby coach William has
also finished tag rugby with 5th &6th class.

Under 11 Tag Rugby Community Games


Well done to the two community games tag rugby teams who played against
Annacurra last Thursday night. The under 14 team did great but were
unsuccessful. The Under 11 match was a tough game, with the Westside
team becoming
victorious in the end. They go forward to meet Dublin champions!

Mobile Phone Recycle Appeal


If anyone has any old phones/tablets/laptops which are broken, they could be
donated to the school for a recycle appeal from which the school could get
new IT equipment. The recycle box is in the office.
Donoughmore/Donard Drama Society
A big thank you to the members of the local drama society who presented
Mary Metcalfe with a cheque for 500 for Donard School. Anyone who saw
their most recent production was guaranteed a most enjoyable night. Well
done to all.
Nutritionalist
On Monday 16th May nutritionalist Aisling Murphy from the HSE gave a most
informative talk to parents regarding a healthy diet and healthy lunches for
children. Thank you to the parents who attended.
Biodiversity
We are working towards our next Green Flag which is for Biodiversity. We will
be having a day of action at the end of June. We are going to build an Insect
Hotel. If you have any of the following materials please bring them in.
Deadwood, straw or hay, dry leaves, loose bark, wooden pallets,pine cones,
small
School Booklists
School booklists for next year are being prepared and sent out this week.
Please return to the school by Friday 10th June if ordering books through the
school.
Primary Language Curriculum
Department of Education has launched a new Primary Language Curriculum in
which all teachers are to be trained. The Department have granted us a
school closure on Friday 17th June to facilitate this training.
Gemma Hanlon Memorial Blitz
The Gemma Hanlons memorial blitz takes place on Thursday 9 th June. School
from all over West Wicklow will participate.
School Tours
Junior Infants, Senior Infants & 1st class school tour to Rancho Reillys is 21st
June.
2nd, 3rd & 4th class school tour to Fort Lucan is 10th June.

Incoming Junior Infants
Incoming Junior Infants for September 2016 will meet their teacher and see
their classroom on Monday 20th June from 2-2.30p.m. and their parents will
meet with teacher at 7.30p.m. that evening.
