Learning Objectives

Students will
Introduce themselves to the group
Understand the norms and roles set up by the
group
Identify each individual in the group

Materials

Procedure
35 min

1. Students will first go around and introduce


themselves. They will share their name, favorite relaxing
activity, best word that describes them. (Counselor will
go first and model the introduction)
2. Students will thank each other for sharing
3. Counselor will go over group norms and roles,
each participant will take a turn reading the norms and
roles
4. Counselor will review confidentiality agreement,
students will sign their own and turn it in
5. Stand up and take a brain break. (Hands to the
sky, down to floor, stretch neck)
6. Students will move into a round table setting.
7. Fan-Pick activity: There are 15-20 cards with get
to know you questions.
Person 1 Hold cards out and let's person 2 pick
Person 2 reads the card and shows the card to person 3
Person 3 answers and person 4 provides a positive praise/
celebration.
Roles switch: 1 becomes 4 2 becomes 3 4 and become 1

NOTE- Students in the entire 6th grade took a pretest about


positive relationships and students were selected for the group
based on test data.

Plan for evaluation

Process Data: Students within the group. 4-5 females from 6th
grade class
Perception Data: Students will show better relationship skills,
have less tension among peers, work collaboratively with peers

Results Data: Students will show a 5% increase in academic


courses along with teacher reported behavioral disturbances
decreasing by 5%
Follow Up

Students will use information shared from this session and


apply it to other sessions. Develop connections and similarities
between group members
