    Robinsonstrial.TomRobinsonwasadisabledblackmanaccusedofrapingawhitewomen.A
    quotefromthebooksaysDoyoudefendniggers,Atticus?(Lee75).ThisisaquotebyScout,
    thenarrator,toherfather,Atticus,thelawyerdefendingTomRobinson.Scoutsaysthisafter
    schoolonedaywhentheotherkidswereteasingherbecauseherdaddefendedblackpeople.Itis
    extremelyracistofthosechildrentomakefunofAtticusbecauseheisgoingtodefendablack
    man.AnotherveryracistthingaboutthistrialisthatAtticusknowsheisgoingtolosebeforehe
    evenstartsthetrialsimplybecauseTomRobinsonwasblack.Thecourtwassobiasedagainst
    blackpeoplethattheywouldcallamantheyknewwasinnocent,guilty.

    skin.Thesouthisusuallythemostracistpartofthecountrysincetheyweresoproslavery.The
    smalltownofMaycombisnoexception.
    RacismliketheracismshowninthebookissadlystillalargepartofAmericanculture
    today.Forexample,alloftheblackpeoplebeingshotbywhitepolicefornorealorapparent
    reason,exceptforracism,isahugeconflictintodayssociety.Eventhoughpeoplemaydenyit,
    thevastmajorityofourpopulation,alargepartofitinthesouth,isracisttowardAfrican
    Americans.IthinkthatifablackmanlikeTomRobinsonwasaccusedofrapingawhitewoman
    andwastakentocourtforit,hewouldstillhaveahigherchanceoflosingthanwinning.
    Fortunately,mostpeoplearenotasracistasthepeopleinMaycombsotheblackmaninatrial
    todaywoulddefinitelybetakenmoreseriously.Ithinkthatanotherfactoristhatpeoplemaybe
    biasedtowardonepersonoranotherwithoutevenrealizingit.Despitethisfact,racismisstill
    alivetoday.

    modernsociety.Butjustbecausepeopleareracistdoesnotmeanitisokay.
