This is me (Pierre) as a kid on the Canadian
game show Just Like Mom 28yrs ago!!!! The
year was 1981. Show consists of questions
moms and toddlers must match on to get
points. Then a bakeoff which allows the
moms to guess which daily recipe was put
together by their respective child. The
winners go on to spin a wheel with many
prizes the most valuable of which is a trip to
DISNEY WORLD!!! Which I won!!!! lol... take
a look. Enjoy. The vid is poor quality as I
dubbed it from an old vhs... it's all i had and
i saw the interest here for people askin for
other episodes, but obviously this is the only
one I had.

@spolly18 you're not considering the CONTEXT! Obviously if a man came
up to me and said, 'hey buddy, lemme kiss your 8yr old daughter!' I'd freak. But
this is not what we're seeing HERE. We're seein a game show host, tryin to be
nice and tryin to break the ice. Do you know how nervous i was as a kid on a
nationally televised game show? :Oo

@rrpostalagain look at the context. He was't treating us that way. I'm
sorry. Now maybe if i were one of those girls all grown up now, today, i'd
prolly frown on being treated like a child and teased in that way... but I think
i'd still consider the context... that he meant no harm, and really did no harm.
Sorry.
hipnotyq

@fifalacious ahm look at all these people who agree with me; your the only
one, the ONLY one on here defending this guy. Maybe back in the days when
the church ruled state your solo defense would work but not today. When
people get outraged, people get punished. You would never see this on tv
today. did you see the clips where the girls said "no, i do not give out kisses"
and he went for it anyway? watch those. That is illegal and would not fly i
guarentee you

fifalacious

@hipnotyq Being on our guard, we're more readily disturbed when we see a
man (mr oliver) being 'sweet' to little girls. Honestly, take a step back, and
look at what you're insinuating. Look at the way he spoke to me... he was
gentle, loving, very normal. I think today's society has lost the sense of being
innocently sweet. I'm just saying, back then it had nothing to do with
pedophilia, and today it still has no hints of it. It's our own perception which
has been shaped by recent events.

Seems a lil bit creepy by todays standard. Pierre is right, times were
different then, and this was a big show in Canada. Innocense is lost.

@fifalacious I am looking at the context. I admit he may not be a perv. I
don't have enough evidence to say either way (although many of the questions
are pretty "odd"). But I still hate people who treat children as though they are
brain damaged. I'm sure he thinks it's the proper adult way to talk to them, but
even a very small child can tell you are talking down to them when you do it
this way. They're young people, not necessarily stupid people.

Ummm.... This guy was A SERIOUS perv!!! I think he only did this show to
get his rocks off. He was sick, and it was obvious. Because there was still a
little innocence left in the 70s, he was allowed to get away with that shit... (u
were a cute kid, btw)

For All You Fergie Olver Fans Across the
World
by Jaime Weinman

Anybody remember Just Like Mom? I can’t be the only one

who watched any cheap Canadian-made game show if there
was nothing else on at the time. (For cripe’s sake, I watched
Pitfall, and found out only later that it had been canceled
years before I ever saw it.) Anyway, the co-host of the show,
Fergie Olver, was someone we knew from Blue Jays
sportscasts. As a game show host, he was very much in the
Gene Rayburn/Richard Dawson tradition, but with a strange
extra layer of creepiness, due to 1) The fact that he was
complimenting and kissing little girls, and 2) his soothing Mr.
Rogers tone of voice. And someone has put together a
montage of creepy Fergie moments; it’s been up for a while
now, but I only saw it today via New York magazine. Proving
once again that Canada doesn’t exist until the U.S. says it
does.
I must say, I never noticed the creepiness when I was
watching the show at the time; all I really noticed was that
the show was kind of boring. I think I preferred Bumper
Stumpers.Bumper Stumpers was a Canadian game show in
which two teams of two players attempted to decipher vanity
license plates. It aired on the USA Network from June 29,
1987 to December 28, 1990, and was rebroadcast on Global
Television Network from 1990-1995 and again on GSN in
2000. It was produced by the Global Television Network in
association with Barry & Enright Productions, Wink
Martindale Enterprises, and in cooperation with USA
Network. It was created by Wink Martindale, developed by
Mark Maxwell-Smith, and was hosted by Al Dubois
Just Like Mom (Series) (1980-1987)

Just Like Mom was a game show built on a child-mother

relationship. Viewers wrote in requesting the opportunity to
participate from all parts of Canada. Producer Paul Burford said
that the source of the request was usually the child. The show was
originally hosted by Stephen Young and Catherine Swing. Executive
producer Fergie Olver later took over hosting duties from Young,
joining Swing (who was his wife). The hosts introduced three
mothers who were asked questions such as "What does ____ do
when he/she accompanies you to the supermarket?" The answers
were noted and then the child was introduced and asked the same
question. If the answers matched, points were scored.

Every attempt was made to screen out acquisitive, ambitious or

competitive parents because Burford aimed to de-emphasize
competition and the materialistic goals of winning prizes by stressing
the mother-child relationship and putting the emphasis on a positive
lifestyle. The show was carried on over twenty stations and was
seen by over 2,000,000 viewers.

Watch an Unbearably Creepy Montage of a
Canadian Game-Show Host’s Most Lecherous
Moments

watch_an_unbearably_creepy_mon

This is a montage of horribleness from Just Like Mom, an

old Canadian kids' show (!?) co-hosted by the
nightmarishly pervy Fergie Oliver, who should obviously go
to jail immediately and makes Bob Barker look like a saint
in comparison. It is the most uncomfortable thing we've
ever seen.
Out of all the characteristics one needs to be a game
show host -- big smile, generous laugh, kind eyes -- it
seems that the biggest requirement is that you're a
straight up pervert. Richard Dawson was an infamous
contestant kisser, Meredith Vieira wouldn't stop hitting on
this Navy pilot and Bob Barker's habit of touching "pretty
little things" is well worn territory.
But all of them pale in comparison to gamedom's creepiest
host, Fergie Oliver. Making matters a whole lot worse,
Fergie (emcee of Canada's "Just Like Mom") performed all
these shudder inducing acts on little girls. I don't know
what's scarier -- the fact that this transpired throughout
his on-air as host or that his wife, also the shows co-
creator, was co-host.
