The Dutch cabinet continues to speak of 'the issue of the Armenian genocide'

regarding the atrocious events that took place in 1915 in the Ottoman
Empire. The definition is of less importance than the actual acts behind it
minister Asscher (Social Affairs and Employment, PVDA) stated. According to
him it is not up to the cabinet to give it a juridical qualification. Whether or
not it was genocide must be defined by a judge based on international
criminal law he said. Germany does speak of the 'Armenian genocide', Turkey
is furious about this as was made clear earlier this week when Ankara called
back its ambassador from Berlin.
