represent the problem.
Supporting standards:
5.NF.B.4
Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction.
Lesson Objectives:

7.)
8.)

As students enter the room, they will gather materials (math journal, dry erase boards/markers, etc.).
I will pass out flashback for students to complete.
Upon completion of the flashback, I will review the flashback with the students and work the problems on the board.
After I take up the flashbacks, I will begin instruction of the new standard (5.NF.B.6) and introduce the students to our I Can
statement.
I will then work through an example of the standard for the students, breaking down each step as I go. I will also answer questions as
they arise.
Upon completing the example for the students, I will give the students a problem in which we will work together as a class.
After working through the problem, I will review the students problem with them and clear up any misunderstandings among the class.
Once we have completed the shared problem, I will then give the students an activity to complete. This will be independent work, to be
completed in small groups.

9.) I will walk throughout the room and monitor the students efforts within their groups, answering any questions they may have during the
activity.
10.) Once the activity is finished, I will collect the students work and pass out their exit slip (formative assessment). The lesson will
conclude once the exit slip is taken up.
