Proposal: Introduction
Audience: Outdoors Center Project Coordinator

SUBJECT:
A full time student is enforced to take twelve credits or more
resulting to at least three classes a day. The suggested amount of studying
for each individual class is two hours beyond discussion time. Estimating that
each student allocates a minimal of six hours of studying outside of
designated class time. In 2014 Western Washington recorded 15,060 enrolled
students, ranking it to be the third largest college campus in Washington.
The library critically acclaimed for its studious ambience. The inside climate
of the library can feel compact and anxious with no air to breathe. At a
college campus it is ideal to have a plethora of study space to facilitate
students educational demands. Different habitats can influence motivation
and inspiration to consistent studying. The perks of an outdoor studying
environment include beneficial natural lighting, fresh and pure oxygen, and
natural climate. As well as studying outsides proves to enhance mental and
spiritual health. In order to create an ideal study space for students to study
efficiently throughout their day requires enhancing definite aspects to the
location. The popularity of Red Square exceeds individual capacity more than
any other social zone on campus. The profession of a student consists of
prolonged hours of studying, according to Professors Guide: The Secrets of
College Success suggests that students with larger blocks of time devote
concentrated bouts to studying. Educing students to be captivated to the
atmosphere by the centered courtyard located in between the major
buildings establishing a nearby studying location. Indicating how important it
is to have study spaces where students are able maximally utilize their time.

AREA OF IMPROVMENT:

Students typically bide on campus throughout the school day which

shapes the fashion of how campus is utilized for. A place such as, Red square
is valued for its availability and opportunity of space in which students and
other members of Westerns community are endorsed to use freely and
independently. Considering the centralized location of Red Square in between
the four major educational buildings it imposes limitations to table space.
The preponderance of people within the community assembled at Red
Square are primarily full time students. As there are not enough hours in a
day, students are labored to study in their downtime in between classes.
Normally students will occupy Red Square in the gap of their classes with a
driven purpose to study or read. The occupancy of Red Square becomes

instantaneously stocked with people at every table developing problematic

positions for students who want to study. The consequence of deficit tables in
Red Square strains students to study on the grass lawn. When students are
constrained to studying without a flat surface, such as a table students
get into states of total desperation as they flail around looking for the
important reading or reference that they need to help them with an
assignment whose deadline is looming. Too often, the learning that could be
taking place is replaced by distractions associated with clutter and total
disorganization informed from How to be a Student: 100 Great Ideas and
Practical Habits for Students Everywhere. The foundation of studying is the
paperwork and various books needed, significantly students would construct
beneficial study habits if their paperwork is organized. The lawn is
problematic to students studying habits because the lack of level flat
surface for their paperwork. The ambiance of the new tables would be
beneficial for people beyond educational reasons as well. Throughout the
year Western welcomes hundreds of visitors on campus tour groups. To
spectate a glimpse into student life the campus tour groups customarily visit
Red Square, attentively acknowledging the atmosphere. The prospects of
Red Square would revolutionize into a studious, intellectual atmosphere with
the assets of students studying. The students of western would be perceived
as astute and passionate for their education by their peers and the public.

SOLUTION:
The premises of a college campus are to facilitate students with their
education and course work support. Installing tables into Red Square
provides an additional place for students to construct an organized
framework of studying habits promoting educational development. Likewise,
the outside ambiance promotes a less stressful environment contributing to
the natural lighting and soft winds contrasting a stale, muggy inside
environment like a library. Improving Red Square would prove to the student
body that our administration supports an alternative successful way to strive
in our education. For students would utilize the tables in more than one way
or another beyond educational reasons. Red Square reaches to the whole
student body and is used for solicitation about events happening within
campus. For the purpose of the tables can expand to utilize for the clubs and
other school coordinated information booths. During the weekend and time
when students are not studying the tables simply provide extra seating.
Currently, the fountain is consistently reserved by the solicitors. The
additional tables would provide extra space allowing for the fountain to open
up to single individuals. Envisioning a place where students are able to utilize
the tables primarily for studying but also serve to the students beyond
educational needs. According to homedepot.com a diamond red commercial
park round table in ground costs $1,277.19 each (not including instillation
price) with a five-year warranty. On average, a college student beginning as
a freshman will spend at least four to five years paying tuition at the
university until their degree is complete. Each bench and table easily

replaceable after a generation of students graduate the campus. The cost of

four additional tables would cost $5,108.76 which is less than the annual
cost of instate tuition. The capacity of Red Square is limited. To maximally
expand the premise removing the large rectangle potted plants located in
front of Bond Hall and another set in front of the Humanities Building would
vacant the territory on each side of Red Square. Extracting those rectangular
plotted plants clears an opportunity for additional tables.
All in all, the function of a college campus is to service students to their
educational obligations. Red square is the greatest favored courtyard on
campus and centralized location for the four major educational buildings. The
tables would entice students to study outside that provides an organized
groundwork for papers and book enabling coordinated study habits. The
outside environment aids in development in taking responsibility to
cooperate and respect the needs of others. For studying outside in Red
Square would provide a different type of community of practice given in the
library. Creating students to develop respect to others studying habits
outside of the classroom and applying those abilities to a not as formal
setting such as a classroom. An example of Red Squares studious
environment for students to strive academically within campus builds a place
that utilizes campus to the furthest extent. As well as introducing social
interactions strengthens the bond of the campuss community.
