Foundations of Math 1A

The high school mathematics course of study is based upon the national
Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSS-M) adopted by the
North Carolina State Board of Education in June, 2010.
In conjunction with Common Core Math IB, this course deepens and
extends understanding of linear relationships. Students will experience onevariable and two-variable statistics. The Geometry standards that appear in
this the course explore more complex geometric situations and move toward
formal mathematical arguments.

Required Materials:
3-ring Binder (1 inch )
Notebook dividers
Loose leaf notebook paper
Pencils
Graphing calculator
Graph paper

Optional Materials:
Glue or tape
Ruler
Colored pencils

Graphing Calculator Requirements:


Students are required to have a GRAPHING calculator for this course.
The TI-83+ or TI-84+ is recommended. You must bring your
calculator to class every day. If the purchase of a graphing
calculator is not feasible at this time, WHS has the option to check out
a calculator for the semester on a first come first served basis.
Students/parents must complete a loan agreement (parent signature
must be witnessed by any school official or form must be notarized).
Loan forms can be obtained by any math teacher or online through my
website.
Please note: Not having a graphing calculator is not an excuse for
incomplete work. Students who do not have a graphing calculator will
be at a disadvantage in this course and will be unable to complete
much of the coursework, including tests and quizzes. If you have
questions concerning this requirement, please contact me.
Grades:
Quarter grades are based on percentages and will be calculated by the
following:
Homework: 10%
Classwork: 10%
Quizzes: 30%
Tests: 50%
Final Grade = 40% (1st quarter) + 40% (2nd quarter) + 20% (Final
Exam)

Homework Completion:
Homework is done online at: www.mathxlforschool.com
Homework is expected to be completed daily. Homework answers from
the day before will be reviewed at the beginning of each class. It is
important to stay on top of homework so that students know which
topics they need to ask questions about.

Students will receive 100% for full completion, 50% for half completion
and 0% for not completing their homework. Homework will NOT be
accepted late.
If you are absent, you are not responsible for completing that particular
nights homework; however, it would still be good for practice.
Electronic Device Policy:
o No electronic or communication devices should be seen, heard,
or used in the classroom
o Cell phones will be taken up for the duration of test and
quizzes.
Attendance Policy:
Dont miss class! But, if you do . . .
1. It is your responsibility to find out what you missed and to make it up.
Borrow and copy a classmates notes. Get any handouts missed
when you return to class. Get another student to help you with the
material outside of class and/or come in for extra help.
2. Assessments must be made up within one week, per my availability.
3. If you miss the day before the test, you are still expected to take the
test on the scheduled test day. The day before a test is reserved for
review days and no new material will be presented.

Re-test Policy:
If you score below a 77 on a test, you will be allowed to take a retest in
order to bring your score up to a maximum of a 77. The retest must
be completed in the classroom within one week after the original test
score was given to you. If you feel that you need additional practice
before taking the retest, it is your responsibility to schedule a time to
come in for extra help.
