TARY TAS] aay CSA Sema a ep Crema esiKIRTAN REETS OF BHAI SAHIB BHAL RANDHIR SINGH JI by q KANWAR JIT SINGHPREFAGE The book in hand is an effort to make available the Shabad Kirtan (Sikh Holy Hymns), the way Bhat Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh Ji (1878-1961), a superb kirtania, used to recite. He had a variety of Shabads with his composed melodies. After he left for his heavenly abode (16 April 1961), the sangat (his devotees) missed his kirtan because there were no audio-recordings those days. Bhai Mehar Singh, a kirtania and one of the old associates of Bhai Sahib has been reciting those Shabads and their melodies as it gives great joy and fulfilment to the Sangat. He was persuaded by Sangat to do version recording of Bhai Sahib's Kirtan as it would be a great contribution to help Sikh Youth and other devotees all over the world to learn and recite the Shabads. The salient features of the present work are - 1. The audio-recording of shabads and melodies of Bhai Sahib. 2. The musical notation of the melodies of Shabads. 3. The English Transliteration, in vogue, of the Shabads to recite the same properly because there are vowel signs which appear with the final consonant of a word in 8 Gurbaanee, but are not pronounced because they are there for the grammatical purposes. In the first part we are printing 12 Shabads’ musical notation. With a view to help the beginners to learn the Shabads with ease E and convenience, we have undertaken the task of version recording Aeeeerten : Sareea paneof the Shabads in’ the cassette available along with the book. Basic knowledge of music and the exercises to enable the reader to decipher the musical notations and requisite understanding of sound values of Gurmukhee alphabets and vowel signs to facilitate the reader to pronounce Gurbaanee correctly form English Transliteration is also given in the beginning. Hope that this will not only help in learning Shabad Kirtan but will give peace and joy to the devotees of Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh Ji by reciting his kirtan reets.
