Chapter 3

By Olivia O, Bradley, and Nick

Summary- Olivia
In the start of chapter 3 Walter Cunningham comes over to Jem and Scouts
house for lunch. When he gets there he has a nice conversation with Atticus.
Then when Walter piles up syrup on his plate Scout makes fun of him and
Calpurnia yells at her. Then when they get back to school a boy named Burris had
a little cootie run out of his hair. Miss Caroline tells him to shower and he says he
is not coming back to school.

Characters
Bob Ewell- Father of Mayella and a abusive drunk.
Atticus Finch- A widowed attorney who is raising his two children.
Boo Radley- The finches reclusive neighbor.
Scout Finch- Narrator of the story and sister of Jems.
Jem Finch- Brother of Scout.
Calpurnia- Mother of the house and takes care of everyone.
Walter Cunningham- Friend of Scout that came home with them for lunch.
Miss Caroline- Teacher for Scout and the first grade.
Burris Ewell-Burris Ewell is a son of Bob Ewell and a younger sibling of Mayella
Ewell as well as the first antagonist of the novel
Little Chuck- One of Scout's classmates who stands up to Burris Ewell in defense of
Miss Caroline.

Chapter 3 Significant Event. By Bradley


A significant event in chapter 3 is when Scout does not want to go to school
anymore. She already got in trouble for writing to one of her friends. Miss Caroline
said that Scout wasnt supposed to learn how to write, thats third grade. She also
said she shouldnt know how to read fluently yet.They learn how to read in first
grade. She told Atticus said that she didnt want to go to school anymore. But she
went back anyway. This is significant for a dad to hear their child say that they
dont want to go to school. It really could make you worry.

The teacher is crying because Burris was yelling at her saying he doesnt want to go to school
