Removing and installing guide link
Special tools and workshop equipment required
V.A.G 1332 Torque wrench
3287A Ball joint puller
Removing
‒ → Detach wheel trim. In the case of
light alloy wheels, use puller from
vehicle tool kit or suction grip -3208-
to remove trim cap.
‒ Remove wheel.
‒ → Unscrew nut from joint pin of
guide link and press off joint pin.
‒ → Slacken off hexagon bolt -1-.
Take care not to damage surface of
brake pipes and underseal.
‒ Removal of hexagon bolt -1- involves
lowering subframe at rear.
‒ To do so, unscrew hexagon bolts -3-
of support plates and subframe bolts
-2-.
‒ Take out guide link.

Installing
Notes:
Always replace bolts and nuts.
Bonded rubber bushes can only be
turned to a limited extent. The bolted
joints at the suspension links are
therefore not to be tightened until the
vehicle is standing on the ground.
Remove any remnants of adhesive
on thread of joint pin.
→ Only use inner holes -arrow-.
Press guide link inwards whilst
tightening.
‒ Screw on new self-locking nuts at
joint pins and tighten.
Tightening torques:
Flange nut: 100 Nm
Combi nut: 125 Nm
‒ Insert new hexagon bolt -1- and new
hexagon nut, tighten to 90 Nm and
give further 90° turn.
‒ Tighten hexagon bolts -3-.
Tightening torques:
Non-ribbed hexagon bolt: 30
Nm
Ribbed hexagon bolt: 75 Nm
‒ → Insert new bolts for subframe -2-,
tighten to 110 Nm and give further
90° turn.
‒ Fit and secure wheel => Page 44-1.
